  M.SC., M.ENGR AND PH.D DEGREE PROGRAMMES

The postgraduate programmes of the Department of Electronic Engineering are being offered at two levels, namely: Masters and Doctoral levels. The Masters degree is in two forms: Master of Engineering (M.Engr) in Electronic Engineering; and Master of Science (M.Sc) in Electronic Engineering. The Masters and Doctoral (Ph.D) programmes lay emphasis on project work, that is, the practical engineering involvement being considered especially important in the technological environment of the nation. The Masters programmes prepare students for creative teaching and research and development (R&D) work in academic, industrial and military applications of electronic engineering, in any one of the areas of specialization. The progamme aims at preparing graduate students to be able to characterize electronic materials, components and complete plants, and simulate the behaviours of these on computers: to specify new sub-system and with or on these, to effect adaptation and development work. The M.Engr. Students are trained to be able to specify completely, unpackaged and commission hardware and instruments of varying degrees of complexity in his special area. The Ph.D student is expected to be able to probe more deeply than the Masters student. He/she should be able to develop/design techniques in electronic engineering and electronics in the pursuit of the new principles and new or better engineering materials and techniques. Successful doctoral students should be able to initiate and lead Research and development (R&D) work in his area of speciality. He should also be able to design and develop efficient system and to test these in real time. The M.Sc. and M.Engr. programmes are obtained through course work and project report, or course work and dissertation. All candidates for the Masters of Science in Electronic Engineering shall pass through the individualised remedial programme approved by the Departmental Postgraduate Studies Committee. The core courses are intended to harmonize the students’ diverse academic backgrounds and equip them with the necessary tools for meaningful work in their various areas of specialization. The Ph.D degree is obtained through comprehensive research to be embodied in a thesis which is defended orally before a constituted panel. The Ph.D research must show originality and creativity and shall generally result in the development of a new technique processes or correlation and in the advancement of knowledge beyond the current frontier.
